Do old fusions fail?

Started by Ip09 on 05/18/2018 8:00am

I had a l5 s1 fusion in 1991. I have been having pain for about a year. Now it is severe I can’t bear weight on my right leg. All the pain is in my back just to the right of my spine next to the fusion.

Thank you, your help is appreciated

Hi, Ip09--thanks for taking the time to post! When we read your question, this article came to mind:

( I'm in Pain Now—Is My Spine Surgery to Blame? )

This Q&A with spine surgeons shares some reasons why people experience pain in their surgery site after their operation--sometimes years later. It may be worthwhile to reach out to a spine surgeon to discuss what's going on. Your surgeon may order a CT or MRI scan to see the fusion site and identify what's causing your pain.

We hope this information helps you--and we hope that you get some answers and pain relief very soon!
