Inability to walk without stumbling after back fusion

Started by Jthoma57 on 05/20/2018 6:01pm

I’m 4.5 months post lumbar fusion L2-L5. I cannot stand or walk without running or the feeling of falling. Has anyone experience this and will it get better?

Hi. In my opinion go to the pool and walk in the water. It is the best way .it's better to try it

Hi! I had the same issues with the feeling that somehow my legs were not following my brain’s instructions!! But my physical therapist explained it. When you have a fusion, it throws your body mechanics out of whack. It takes time for all the muscles, etc. to get used to working properly with the new “framework” inside. The more you move and walk, the quicker that happens. I’m at 13 months postop and those symptoms are completely gone. So hang in there, it should get better and better with time. Best wishes!
