Fractured pedicle screws

Started by Chrisb on 06/18/2018 10:34am

First post ...long time site stalker :)
Had L5-S1 fusion in 2014 for stability purposes due to disintegrated disc and broken vertebrae. With pain never improving, then getting steadily worse to the point of being disabled. Had 2 year MRI in 2016, with operating surgeon saying all is well with progress. Over last 2 years pain and stability became unmanageable; heavy Percs and mophine increased by pain doc yearly. Made appt with new surgeon last month, he reads 2016 MRI and explained procedure never fused. Had new MRI done last week, flex extension X-rays etc. revealing 2 broken pedicle screws. Is this common ?? Surgeon says he needs CT scan as well immediately, then go over surgical options. My main concern is surgeon believes I’m now fused but can’t explain why the screws have fractured. He doesn’t think the broken screws are of any significance as I MIGHT be fused ???
Anyone else have a similar experience? Just looking for some direction
TIA
