3 level cervical disc replacement and fusion 7/17/18

Started by Micheled on 10/14/2018 7:25pm

I had a three level cervical disc replacement and fusion on 7/17/18. I am a teacher of students with intellectual disabilities. I returned to wrk 6 weeks after surgery. I am now 11 weeks out and am experiencing neck and shoulder pain daily. If I do much such S folding clothes my arm goes numb. I have terrible headaches now. I thought at this point I would be so much better but hurt almost all the time. How long does it take for the pain to stop? I feel very disappointed. I also have spasms.

Hi, Micheled--thank you for your post. We are so sorry to read about the pain and numbness you've experienced during your neck surgery recovery. How have your follow-up appointments been? Has your surgeon indicated that your recovery, despite the pain, is going smoothly?

Pain after spine surgeon is practically inevitable--but debilitating pain or new symptoms deserve the attention of your spine surgeon. Your symptoms sound like they interfere with your quality of life, so our best advice is to talk to your doctor to get confirmation that your recovery is still on track. Many successful spine surgery cases feature nerve problems that persist after the initial spine surgery for many months--but they eventually subside. Having your spine surgeon evaluate your symptoms and your recovery will, at the very least, give you some peace of mind.

We hope this information helps, and we hope you get some answers and relief soon!
