Could this be a pinched nerve?

Started by Shkmstr on 10/28/2018 1:04pm

Over the last 6 - 8 weeks I’ve been experiencing some pretty painful calf pain, mostly in my right leg. I’m a healthy 28 year old with no past medical issues. After about four weeks the pain didn’t really subside so I went to my doctor. He told me I should see a physiologist . So I went and started some physical therapy for what the Physio said was a weak right leg, but was hard to pinpoint the cause. After about 4 weeks of PT the pain is better, but the weakness is only increasing. I’ve noticed pretty consistent muscle atrophy in my right quad, which is where I get most of my weakness. The right leg is normally my dominant leg but I’ve measured it around and it’s close to an inch smaller in some parts. Most specially the outside of my quad. It’s basically flat and my left quad is rounded. I also to lean my weight onto my left leg/hip but I had a baby almost 2 years ago, and I hold her in my left arm and rest on the hip. I thought that may have contributed to the muscle imbalance between the legs at first.

As far as pain goes, I don’t have much. None really in my back eaither. The quad does however have a dull ache that’s fairly constant. The foot on that leg also feels like it’s cold sometimes when I know it’s not. I live in Los Angeles and it’s 85 degrees in late October. Every now and then I’ll feel what feels like a burning or cold sensation in the quad as well. I don’t know if that could be a pinched nerve. I drive for a living and am in the car seat for 10 hours a day sometimes with out getting up much other than to use the restroom and eat. I have since cut back on the driving but the issues are still there. The only other thing I can think of was back in September 7 of this year, close to 2 months ago. I was walking down a wooden staircase and slipped and landed on my right buttock/back really hard. Most of my pain was in the buttock region but my entire right buttock was bruised and purple for a few weeks. After that, it subsided and the pain did as well, but could I have damaged or pinched something in that fall? Any information would be greatly appreciated. The next neurologist apt near me is over 2 weeks away.

Hi there! I'm sorry you are having to deal with this..it does sound like a pinched nerve. If you've been dealing with it this long and PT has only kind of helped, I'm 47 and currently healing from two herniated discs and pinched herve. I went to all kinds of doctors, PT and pain Specialists who really didn't help at all. I had to steroid shots, one worked, and one didn't. I was told NOT to go see a chiropractor, that I would be aggravated and in more pain if if I did. Well, guess what? I started seeing one over a month ago and I'm much better now! I highly recommend going to see one; if you haven't had an MRI done, try and have it done and then take it to a chiropractor. He will be able to see what happened and tell you what needs done. If he can't help you, he will tell what type of doctor to send you to. No referrals either for a chiropractor. Insurance does cover also! I still have some pain, but not like it was. I was off on disability for four months; I couldn't work, drive or sit for any amount of time. It was horrible. Only you know how you feel and since you're not better, it's time for fresh eyes and a new opinion. No one should be in pain! Keep me posted!
