Hardware Removal

Started by alchemist on 12/16/2018 11:35am

Can anyone help me? I had lumbar fusion 2 years ago that never fused. After being in pain since January, they have finally found two of the 6 screws are loose. The surgeon has decided that all the metal should come out as it hasn't worked anyway. I have severe pain around the area of the screws. I have a couple of questions; no-one can guarantee that this removal will actually help the pain, are they being cautious or is there a chance of some kind of irreversible damage?

How long will the recovery take? I have the fusion L4/L5 and L5/S1 (2 plates and 6 screws). I am absolutely terrified and this has been put as a clinical urgent surgery for next week.

Thanks for any advice
