Decompression surgery AFTER Spinal Fusion

Started by Mrsdaniellehoward on 01/16/2019 5:29pm

I had a spinal fusion L4-S1 almost four years ago and was doing great until 9 months ago when I was involved in a serious car accident. I’ve undergone tons of therapy and diagnostic testing and the pain is only increasing. I have chronic low back pain since the accident and continuous sciatica like pain. The pain is so intense in my buttock and thigh that I’d literally love to cut my leg off! I had an EMG today and was told Is need to meet with Neurosurgery because I have severely compressed nerves at L5 and S1. My appointment isn’t for almost a month and I have so many questions. I can’t seem to find any information online where you could need a decompression surgery where you’ve already had a fusion surgery. I was always under the impression that having a fusion would elimate compressed nerves at those levels? Anyone have any experience?
