New pain prescription

Started by Iraisebutterflies on 10/22/2019 9:40am

Previously taking low dose Butrans (Buprenorphine) pain patch for moderate/severe pain. Due to cost / insurance problems my pain specialist prescribed new med, Buprenorphine / Naloxone Sublingual film, You place the Film under the tongue once a day.

The informational sheet from the pharmacy list the common uses as
“ Opioid Addition”. The dosage is under the recommended amount and while I do recognize all drugs have what is called off label uses I still question if this RX is for my pain or if my pain doctor is trying to wean me off my pain meds. If it’s the later I’m puzzled why he would not discuss this with me. I did bring up changing meds because of the cost fast and did request being put back on Vicodin knowing the answer of no before even asking. The doctor said he was limited as to what he could give me and said let’s try this. I have been going to my pain doctor for amount 4 years. Was on Vicodin for about 2 years then the pain patch for about two years. I receive pain shots about every 3 months, triggers, epidurals, facet injections and ablations to cervical and lower back.

Just wondering if anyone is knowledgeable about this drug or been prescribed ? Thanks for your help.
