Cervical plate loose/moves

Started by maryc on 04/13/2010 10:10pm

I have had a plate in my neck at C5-6 for almost 4 years, I told the dr. on several occasions that I think it moves and sometimes when I turn my neck I get stuck on it. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

Do you find this discussion helpful?

Hi Mary, I asked my neurosurgeon that question when I was consulting the 1st surgery...I had asked about broken screws or movement and I was told that if the plate starts to cause problems that it can be removed ..After 4 yrs now your neck should be fused if it was gonna work..Do you still have pain or headaches?

Sorry it took me so long to reply. My computer burnt up in a lightning strike and we didn't have money to fix it.

Yes, I still have pain and headaches every day. I was told the only to do was to remove them take out the cadaver bone and and start all over. Not to pleased with my dr. would like to go to another dr, but not only one group in my insurance.

Spiner man,
I was told last April that I never completely healed, one of the screws is on downward 45 degree angle. I was told if I have more pain the dr. will remove the plate and screws and bone and start all over again. Seeking a 2nd opinion, not to happy with current dr. as it took 4 years, MRI, myelogram and CT for dr. to finally believe me that something wasn't right.
