Neck Pain

Started by 717886485@facebook on 09/09/2011 8:35pm

I had been having shoulder/neck pain for over a yr. Then came headaches and numbness and tingling in both arms. Finally decided to have MRI done. It showed that I have Spinal Cord impingment at C-5, C-6 and C-7.
We have tried injections to get the "swelling" downand some Physcial Therapy to help loose shoulder muscles. None have worked. The pain is getting increasingly worse. It is hard to even turn my head. The doctor said that normally they would try anti-inflammatory meds, but I am allergic.
After 6 mths of trying "ideas" We had a repeat MRI that showed a great decrease in the amount of spinal fluid passing through at C5
Now the DR is suggesting surgery. Anterior Cervical Disectomy and Fusion. The Dr said they do not use bone from the hip ( that is a little comfort)
My family DR said I should recover quickly, I'm 31, non-smoker,
But still
The thought of this is very frightening, but so are the alternatives.
Any advice, anyone had something like this???

My grandfather had about the same thing. His was a little higher, he was in a small fender bender and ended up confide to a wheelchair
