scoliosis and lower disintegrating discs

Started by mjs on 09/18/2010 4:22pm

I am 52 yrs old and I had a spinal fusion 38 yrs ago on my upper spine. a year later I had to have my lower spine fused also. I am not experiencing any pain in my back, but I lean to the right due to my lower vertibre disintegrating from the pressure of having almost my whole spine fused. My doctor suggested fusing the final 3-4 vertibre as a way to straighten me out. I am not sure I want to do this as it will limit my ability to do things for myself. I was wondering if disc replacement surgery would be a better alternative for me. I have not heard or seen any discussion like this before. Has anyone been in this situation and can you give me any suggestions? I really don't want to have any surgery but not sure if I can go on this way without some day being in some sort of pain. I have been having some neck pain the past 2 months and was wondering if it is from my bad posture.

just my opinion but if youre not in pain why take the risk of surgery? how about using a brace. when and if pain hits then look into surgery.....pete

If youre not in any pain, i would just be grateful & stay active.
