Calf pain 6.5 weeks after microdisectomy

Started by Davis on 02/22/2019 1:57pm

Hi all,

This is my first post, though I've done a lot of reading in this discussion board.

I'm a 29 year old man and I'm 6.5 weeks out from my lumbar microdiscectomy. Before surgery my primary symptom was sciatica pain in my right leg. I tried conservative treatment for about a year.

I'm worried about the trajectory of my recovery. I've felt about the same since week 3 of my recovery. I can stand and sit without much pain. When I walk for more than a mile or so, my muscles tend to get sore and my lumbar area feels kind of tired. Right now what concerns me most is intense pain in my right calf. I'm taking 200mg of ibuprofen each day.

I had my 6 week follow-up recently. My neurosurgeon seems to think everything is normal and that I should expect to improve each week. The thing is, I'm not so sure. I feel somewhat better than I did before surgery, but I have all these new sensations, and I haven't experienced much improvement for a few weeks now.

Am I overthinking things? Does this seem like a normal healing process?

Thank you,
Davis
