What to expect

Started by Jtrammy on 12/23/2018 7:31pm

Had cervical spine fusion done on Dec. 19. They replaced the disc between 5 and 6. I don't know all the correct terms.
The procedure went well I guess. No complications and i have been home since Thursday the 20th.
When I woke up out of surgery I was in pain, allot of pain. My throat hurt so bad, figured they would have a button to push for morphine or something but no. In fact after several minutes the nurse came in with a pill to swallow. I thought I would die. Eventually I got morphine shot. The only iv shot I received the whole time I was there. Strictly pill. Oxycodone 7.5 (Percocet) . This is the 23rd, I am still in allot of pain. My throat is so sore I can barely take in fluid, let alone eat. I have coughed up blood, I keep getting nose bleeds, and I just hurt all over.

I feel your pain
In August I had a cervical fusion from c3 to c7
Its been very painful and I'm taking alot of meds for the pain but I guess that it seems to get better each day but I still have issues with my hands behind numb and in severe pain and I can't extend my head all the way up so I stare at the floor and they are not sure why that is going on.
It will get better I have had spinal surgery on my lower back from l2 to my tail bone and it took almost 2 yrs to heal. It was rough but it gets better.
I know you are probably thinking what the he'll did I get myself into by having the surgery that you did but you have to stay positive and not let it beat you it will get better.
