Fingers hot, numb and tingling.

Started by Rhode on 08/27/2018 11:24pm

I had c-5 c-6 fusion four months ago. my right hand pinkie ,ring and middle fingers are hot, numb and tingling most of the time. I fear there is more going on here than normal recovery, anyone have a clue what to do ? My surgeon says it could take a year to improve, living with this is frustrating.

Hi, Rhode--thanks for your question. We read a lot of stories from people who have nerve-related pain after spine surgery, so you're not alone in what you're experiencing. Nerve pain generally takes longer to heal after surgery than other types of pain, like muscular pain, for example.

Living with nerve pain can take a big toll on your quality of life, as you noted. Can your surgeon offer any treatments to help ease this pain? One possible treatment is medication approved to help ease tingling and burning. You can read more about these types of medications here: ( Second Opinions: Five Things About This Patient Right ).

We're sorry you're dealing with this type of pain. Spine surgery recovery can be a difficult, frustrating journey. Stay in touch with your doctor if the pain becomes debilitating, as there are treatments that can help ease your symptoms.
